SUMMER CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Mommy & Me Classes

18 months-2.5 years

Mommy and Me – 45-minute long class. Students must have a participating adult in each class. Classes consist of creative movement, beginner ballet, basic tumbling, and fun exercises to develop gross and fine motor skills.  This class utilizing imagination, fun props, and toddler-friendly music to facilitate learning. Ask us about special Mommy and Me pricing!

2.5-4 years old:

First Steps – 45-minute long class. Students learn beginner ballet and tumbling skills in this exciting, active class. Dancers use a variety of props and toddler-friendly music to facilitate learning.

4-6 years old:

Level 1 Tap Dance Class
Level 1 – 1 hr. class, each week includes Tap, Ballet, and Tumbling. Students start in Tap shoes and will change into Ballet shoes in the classroom. During this exciting class dancers will learn basic steps and skills in each genre of dance and use props to encourage participation.

Shake It Up! – 45-minute class, Pre-Hip Hop and Tumbling.  This class is great for high-energy dancers!  In Shake It Up! we rely heavily on the use of props and creative music to facilitate learning. Dancers will learn basic hip hop and tumbling movements and techniques.

Move It! – 45-minute class, Hip Hop and Tumbling. Dancers 5-7 years.  Typically consists of 30 minutes of Hip Hop and 15 minutes of tumbling each week. Dancers will learn hip hop skills and popular dances like the dougie, dab, etc. and fundamental Hip Hop techniques.

6-8 years old:

Girls Ballet Dancing in a Circle

Move It! – 45 minute class. Dancers 5-7, Hip Hop and Tumbling. Typically consists of 30 minutes of Hip Hop and 15 minutes of tumbling each week. Dancers will learn hip hop skills and popular dances like the dougie, dab, etc. and more fundamental techniques.

Foundations of Acro – 1 hr. class. Students 6+ years old. Younger students will need exceptional focus for the safety of themselves and other students in the class. Depending on skill set of class, students can learn back bends, handstands, head stands, cartwheels and more. This is a beginner level Acro class, students are not expected to have any prior Acro experience in this class. This class focuses on flexibility and strength.

 Acro 1 – 1 hr. class. Must be approved by an instructor prior to enrollment. Students should already be able to go down and recover from their backbends with control, execute a backbend kick-over or walkover and a front limber with minimal-no assistance. Students coming into this class should have straight legs on cartwheels and handstands. Students are strongly encouraged to take Ballet or Jazz class in conjunction with Acro 1. This class was called Acro 2 for the 2017-2018 Fall/Spring Season.

Hip Hop 1 – 45 minute class, 7-10 year olds. Students learn Hip Hop fundamentals, popular dance moves and traditional hip hop techniques. Focus on learning through choreography.

Intro to Tap, Ballet, Jazz – 1 hour 15 minute class. 7-10 year olds. This class is an introduction to Tap, Ballet, and Jazz techniques for dancers with little-no experience in at least one of the above genres.  Tap dancing focuses on creating rhythm and sound through the use of the feet. Ballet focuses on barre work, across the floor, and center floor skills. Jazz is a faster-paced opportunity for dancers to utilize isolations, leaps, turns, and style.

8-11 Years

Ballet 1 - 45 minute class. 7-10 year olds (Session II) 9-11 year olds (Session I). In this class barre work, across the floor, and center floor skills are introduced. Students learn variety of leaps, jumps, turns and more.

Ballet 2 - 1 hr. long class. 10+ years old. In this class students are expected to have basic-intermediate ballet knowledge.  Barre work, across the floor, and center floor skills are improved upon and more advanced terminology is introduced. Students learn a variety of leaps, turns, jumps, and more.

Hip Hop 1 - 45 minute class. 7-10 year olds. Students learn Hip Hop fundamentals, popular dance moves and traditional hip hop techniques. Focus on learning through choreography.

Hip Hop 2 - 45 minute class. 9-12 year olds.Students learn Hip Hop fundamentals, popular dance moves and traditional hip hop techniques.Concepts are introduced at a faster pace than Hip Hop 1 and more complicated techniques are introduced. Focus on learning through choreography.

Jazz 1 – 45 minute class. Ages 9-12 years old. Students learn basic Jazz technique and style set to fast-paced, high-energy music. Designed to be taken in conjunction with Ballet 1, though not required.

Acro 1 – 1 hr. long class. Must be approved by an instructor prior to enrollment. See above for details.

Strength and Flexibility - 45 minute long class. Ages 10+.  This class focuses on fitness, conditioning, stretching, and building muscles and coordination required for dance. Great for dancers looking to try out for high school or college dance teams, students looking to make improvements in their technical performance, increase endurance, and those looking for a challenging but rewarding class that will make you sweat!

11+ Years

Two People Performing a Hip-Hop Dance

Ballet 2 – 1 hr. class. Ages 10+, dancers in this class should have at least two years of Ballet experience. Older dancers with limited-no dance experience are also welcome in this class but should expect to learn concepts and basic ballet form quickly. Dancers learn intermediate ballet techniques at the barre, center floor, and across the floor. Dancers should have a grasp of basic Ballet terminology.

Ballet 3 – 1 hr. class. Ages 14+ (or with approval). Dancers should have at least two years of Ballet training. Dancers learn advanced ballet techniques at the barre, center floor, and across the floor. Dancers should have a grasp of intermediate Ballet terminology. This class is required for dancers who wish to take Pointe.

Pointe – 45 minute class. Ages 14+ (or with approval). This class is by teacher approval only. Dancers must take Ballet 3 to take this class. Dancers will need pointe shoes or pre-pointe shoes (with teacher approval).

Strength and Flexibility - 45 minute class. Ages 10+.See above for description.

Leaps and Turns Techniques – 1 hr. class. Ages 13+ (or with approval). Dancers should have at least one year of dance experience. Dancers are expected to have basic knowledge of dance techniques and terminology (such as turn out, ballet positions, closed ribcages, basic arm positions, etc.). Dancers will learn intermediate-advanced leaps and turn combinations. This class is skills-focused and will not include choreography.

Jazz Combinations - 1 hr. class. Ages 13+ (or with approval). This class is a fun choreography-based class. Dancers will learn many different short jazz dances of varying styles (such as Musical Theater, Contemporary, Sassy, Funk, and more). Dancers are expected to have intermediate-advanced Jazz dance knowledge and techniques.

Acro 1 - 1 hr. class. Teacher Approval Only. See above for details.

Advanced Hip Hop (Drop-In Class) - 1 hr. class. Ages 11+. $15 per class! These fun classes are choreography-based and will be unique each week! Join Mr. Duane for an interesting new combinations and techniques each week.
